Marshawn Lynch, a former American National Football League (NFL) legend, has filed an application to trademark the term “Beastmode” with intentions to provide NFT-authenticated goods and digital collectibles under the brand. Lynch was nicknamed “Beast Mode” by fans due to his persistent pattern of running over defenders.

The trademark application, which has the serial number 97761943, was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on January 20, according to Michael Kondoudis, a USPTO-licensed trademark, and patent attorney. Kondoudis first disclosed the development through his official Twitter handle today.

According to a snapshot of the trademark application, Lynch plans to offer downloadable virtual goods under the trademark. These goods include non-fungible tokens (NFTs), blockchain-based NFTs, a series of NFT collectibles, and digital collectibles.

Lynch trademarked the term “Beast Mode” in 2008 following a surge in its popularity as associated with him. According to the trademark application then, his plans were to leverage the brand by offering T-shirts. This led to the launch of the Beast Mode Apparel clothing line. Lynch’s decision to delve into the NFT scene was possibly influenced by the industry’s growing adoption rate.

Besides Lynch, other notable personalities have also filed NFT-focused trademark applications in the past. Steph Curry, a prominent American basketball star, filed an application to trademark the term “Curryverse” last year. The basketballer plans to leverage the brand in offering entertainment services through the Metaverse, and virtual goods.

Top global companies have also filed trademark applications for NFT-focused goods and services, as The Crypto Basic highlighted a cluster of such applications throughout last year. They include Lionsgate, Rolex, Nissan, Visa, and Ford, among others. This underscores the massive global adoption the crypto scene is witnessing.
